Have we seen the last of the traditional album format?
There is no question that digital content sites have forever changed the way music is consumed. While Sunwheel Psychedelic is known as devoted practitioners of the album craft, our goal is also to deliver material that meets and even exceeds current delivery standards. Accomplishing this aim without resorting to the indignities of commercialism is no easy feat.
Lovers, Sinners and Redeemers showcases the enduring strengths of SP in spades: stylistic juxtapositions, unique compositions and the ability to harvest deep and poignant emotions. Its quick pacing and vibrant energy combine to produce our most concise statement to date. It is also the perfect marriage of its predecessors, and a compelling desert-island choice for SP enthusiasts.
One song worthy of special mention is the provocative Assassins Bullet. Here we present this notorious figure on a different scale: as an inevitable and lawful by-product in the rise and fall of cultures.
Like Assyria and Rome before it, the dazzling expansion of the United States in the 20th century carried within it the seed of its own demise. When materialism gains the upper hand at the expense of cooperation and conscience, the foundations of civilization erode.
Such periods are characterized by war, climate change, geological cataclysms and the irretrievable loss of reason.
Into this void the assassin appears, posing an eternal question mark to the rhetoric of modernity and progress.
Has he come to wipe away the sins of our time?
Or is he blind?
Trivia
Assassins Bullet and Mary, Mirror of Light was originally conceived as one composition, divided later due to thematic differences.
Mary is based loosely on the figure of Mary Magdalene. The victim of defamation at the hands of Church tradition, recent scholarship has restored this “apostle to the apostles” in the eyes of the world.
